Welcome to the KCC Tapestry Project!
Moving Forward Together
What is the overall idea for this project?
This is an ongoing project that will involve several events over the course of the Spring 2025 semester. These events will provide opportunities to come together as a community by being creative together, specifically through making collage art together.
Why come together? A sense of community is a vital asset in today’s world. Feeling like we belong to a larger group can be inspiring, comforting, energizing, and just plain fun.
Why collage art? Collage art is made when we piece together different images and materials to create something uniquely yours. It something anyone can do. Also, the process gives you time to think and reflect. Through planning, selecting, arranging, cutting, twisting, curling, and pasting, you have the chance to explore your creativity, reflect, and express yourself. After you make your individual collage, it will then become part of the Kingsborough Tapestry.
What is the Kingsborough Tapestry? On the one hand, the Kingsborough Tapestry is all of us. When we all come together, we create a unified whole. On the other hand, we hope to create an actual tapestry, that is, a mural-sized image composed of reproductions all the collage art you make over the course of the semester for display in the Hall of Flags. (You get to keep the original artwork.)
How can I learn more and get involved?
Our first event will be March 11 at 3:00 in U-101A The Cove. At this kick-off event we will be sharing more about the inspiration for this project and more details on upcoming events. We will also be offering our first opportunity for you to make (or start) your collage art piece.
Other events are scheduled for:
April 22 1-3pm in the Cove – this event will help us come together to acknowledge Earth Day, among other things.
May 14 in MAC Rotunda (time tbd) – this event will coincide with ECO-Eats event with a documentary film, free veggie distribution.
June 3 – this event will coincide with the cap and gown distribution for our Spring 2025 graduates.
